Senior Embedded Software Engineer (based in our Poole office)

This position assists in envisioning product development and in a senior contributor on projects through completion; analyses, designs, and develops software enhancements and new modules; assists in managing development projects from initial design through testing.

Familiar with the software development life cycle (SDLC) from preliminary system analysis to tests and deployment.

Ultimately, the role is to design and build high-quality, innovative and fully performing software that complies with coding standards and agreed technical design.

MAIN DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

(Include but are not limited to)

  • Stay abreast of and promote new engineering approaches that may benefit the business.
  • Exercise good judgment in overall project management by prioritizing, planning, and tracking project progress in support of the product roadmap.
  • Architects, designs, develops, and modifies software, including prototypes that supports the businesses products, professional services engagements, strategic goals and product roadmap.
  • Research product development options and provides analysis and proposals for product direction and architecture.
  • Work closely with internal departments including Product Management to develop and maintain strong cross-functional alignment.
  • Follow engineering practices that lead to the delivery of products that are secure and reliable by design.
  • Implement and carry out unit, integration and system testing.
  • Supporting and writing product and project documentation.
  • Writing operational documentation with technical authors.
  • Assist in promoting continual process improvement to maximum efficiency, minimizing engineering risks and reducing the cost of product development and maintenance.
  • As a Senior Engineer you will also mentor and assist other team members.
  • Assist with technical sales as and when required.
  • Assist in supporting customer deployments where needed.
  • Willing and able to travel at short notice to meet customers both nationally and internationally.
  • You are required to carry out your duties in accordance with the company’s health & safety policies and procedures and adhere to all externally relevant health and safety laws.
  • Carry out other general duties which may be required and agreed with your line manager.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • BEng Degree in Computer Science or similar or equivalent experience
  • High level of skill with a range of software languages and APIs that may include: C/C++, Python and Java
  • Highly proficient with Embedded Linux, Linux Kernel, AOSP.
  • Experience of Eclipse, Android Studio and GIT/GitLab.
  • Familiar with technologies such as XML, SQL, web services, networking.
  • Ability to Interface with other team members including hardware and test engineers.
  • Technical Capacity.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Problem Solving/Analysis.
  • Analysing Information, Software Design, Software Documentation, Software Testing, Teamwork, General Programming Skills, Software Development Fundamentals, Software Development Process, Software Requirements, Software Architecture, Coaching.

Software Engineer (based in our Poole office)

This position designs, develops, tests and installs software solutions.

The responsibility of a Software Engineers includes gathering user requirements, defining system functionality and writing code using familiarity with the software development life cycle (SDLC) from preliminary system analysis to tests and deployment.

Ultimately, the role of the Software Engineer is to build high-quality, innovative and fully performing software that complies with coding standards and technical design.

MAIN DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

(Include but are not limited to)

  • Stay abreast of and promote new engineering approaches that may benefit the business.
  • Gather customer requirements, analyse, scope and produce high-level software designs.
  • To develop and maintain customer applications that run on our embedded products.
  • To design and develop bespoke customer integrations between our products and our customers both via embedded and server based applications.
  • Implement and carry out unit, integration and system testing.
  • Follow engineering practices that lead to the delivery of products that are secure and reliable by design.
  • Supporting and writing product and project documentation.
  • Writing operational documentation with technical authors.
  • Working closely with other staff, such as project managers, graphic artists, UX designers, other developers, systems analysts and sales and marketing professional.
  • You are required to carry out your duties in accordance with the company’s health & safety policies and procedures and adhere to all externally relevant health and safety laws.
  • Carry out other general duties which may be required and agreed with your line manager.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • BEng Degree in Computer Science or similar or equivalent experience
  • Python OO design and programming skills.
  • Android OO design and programming skills.
  • Familiar with technologies such as XML, SQL, web services, networking.
  • Experience of Eclipse or Android Studio, GIT.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Problem Solving/Analysis
  • Ability to work in a customer facing role, this may include technical training for a developer audience and meeting with senior stakeholders to gain their confidence and support.
  • Ability to analyse and document customer requirements.
  • Practically minded, not afraid of getting stuck in and hands on.
  • Self-starting team player with ability to prioritize a complex workload.
  • Willing and able to travel at short notice to meet customers both nationally and internationally.

Desirable:

  • Embedded Linux, C/C++ knowledge a bonus.
  • Familiar with Access Control and Workforce Management industries.
  • Strong understanding of embedded, server, cloud, mobile and security technologies.
  • Experience working in an agile product development environment.
